Hey guys, came across this note in a deposit today. There is the small 8 on the lower right of the obverse but every other $1 note that I looked at today had many more letters and numbers for plate marks. It's a series 1988 A so my hopes are up. Right now I only have a scan of the obverse but I'll put up an image of the reverse shortly. Yay or nay? :hammer:

    Good eye!

Yes, it is a web note. F-U block run 15. 8/4 combination listed at $12 in VF in 2001 (date of my book).

    Keep looking!

88's are very exciting web notes to find :) being the first issue for web's, most folks didnt know about them and alot of notes were lost to us forever. The 93 and 95 issues are very common and numerous today and can be found pretty cheap. While this particular web note may not be an 'ubber' rare and expensive note... finding a 88 web note should still send shivers of excitement up your spine as you quickly check to see if it is one of the 'ubber' rare and expensive notes :D.

At our coin club meeting last week there was a presentation on varieties of paper money with a considerable portion of the talk being on web notes. I'd never heard of them myself. Quite a fascinating part of the hobby.

We were told that they are difficult to find and becoming more so, so you have a nice find!

There is a book on web notes, I don't recall the particulars but I'll bet someone here has the title and author.

Great, thanks for the info guys! :hail: You cant really tell from the scans, but it's actually in pretty good shape for coming out of circulation. Its crinkled a bit but theres still most of the original crispness left.

The funny thing is that I just started checking my drawer for web notes yesterday, as I only looked for older date notes before that. This note was in the first strap I checked. Wont be getting that lucky again for a while im sure!

Saw a 1988A in my cash drawer at work... not sure if it was a web or not, didn't think to check.

So many people assume that these are so rare that it's unlikely you'd find them in circualtion, that and the fact not many ones this old are still around... but some are out there, so finding them in circulation is not impossible, as this thread proves!

I'm going to keep my eyes open for them now, suggest you all do the same!
