I received two coins in the mail today. This one was a very pleasant addition to my collection. It truly looks nicer in hand than the pics and the most important part is I really love it ! @John Anthony had this to say about it and I could not agree more. This example is well-struck, barely circulated with pristine surfaces, and the flan was large enough to capture the full imprint of both dies. (I love it when that happens). Lady luck definitely smiled on this coin. Julia Mamaea, AD 222-235 AR denarius, 21mm, 3.2g, 6h; Rome mint. Obv.: IVLIA MAMAEA AVG; Draped bust right. Rev.: FELICITAS PVBLICA; Felicias standing front, head turned left, legs crossed, holding caduceus and leaning left arm on column. Reference: RIC Ivb, 335. From the Sallent Collection, ex-JAZ Numismatics. Next up is my very first Tetradrachm and I must say it is just stunning. I can see me adding a lot more of this kind of coin to my collection real soon. I love the size of it seems to stand out very well in my collection. It is slabbed and will need a jail break soon. I have not researched this coin at all. @Al Kowsky had this to say about it. The coin is in Choice Ex Fine condition & has lovely toning. Your coin is listed in McAlee's book as 1043, & that could be found in Prieur's book as 473.
That's a sweet looking denarius of Julia, I was the 1st one to bid on it . I thought it would make a nice companion to the sestertius, of the same type, I've got in my collection. Out of curiosity, what grade did NGC assign to the billon Tet of Philip II ?
Sorry about the Julia Mamaea denarius @Al Kowsky you are correct it sure would have looked good with your Sestertius of Her. On the Tet of Phillip II NGC graded it at AU. Do you keep your coins in their slab ? I am 50/50 on busting this one out, it just has a strange look in a slab.
You have very good taste in coins Roman Collector. I think your example is very attractive ! Octavius I believe you are correct I as sure she was very beautiful also.
After browsing thru my coins I realized I had a nice looking denarius of Julia, although it's a different reverse, so I let go of the auction coin. If the slab is in nice shape (no surface scratches) why not keep it there ? I don't like to see large bronze coins in a slab & will break them out .
