If what I see is doubling, it is highly doubtful it is a doubled die, and more likely is machine doubling.

I'm not even sure there are DD varieties known for this year/MM, but I'm sure one of the experts will correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Looks like it was processed and the plating is giving the coin that look.

x3 Reprocessed, check the edge , If it is shiny rather than dull grey, it was re-plated with zinc.

Does x3 Reprocessed mean it's machine doubled? Is there a website or someplace I can go to learn what all these terms mean. I have so many different coins with abnormalities that are most probably machine doubled and I'd dove to be able to diagnose them myself. Thanks so much.

X2 means you agree with the last poster. X3 means you're the 3rd person in agreement.

Reprocessed means the coin has been replated with zinc. That way is appears to be freshly minted but in reality, it's now damaged as it's not original.

All Cents in 1943 were made of steel so they rust. The copper was necessary for the war effort in WWII.

An RS Yeoman Red Book is a great source of information but please ignore the price guide. Just stick around and you'll learn a lot. We do have a strange sense of humor.

hahahaha Good to know about the x2 and x3. This saves me a lot of time researching x3 coin reprocessing. Someone recently gave me a Mega Red book and I was so happy because of the price guide. I thought finally I'll have something that can make some sense out of the different coin prices I've seen on so many coins. YIKES! So, I'm guessing the Mega Red is out of touch with real coin values? lol Thanks for the explanation and strange humor?... I'm good with strange.

Thought we saw this same badly reprocessed coin yesterday.

My father (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans) saved every 1943 coin that came his way. He had over 300 1943 coins, which 8my brother and I split his coin collection in half. I got over 100 1943 (P),40 D's, and there was only 3 1943 S cents and my brother let me have those. Were the 1943 S Cents rare? I just wondered why he only had 3. Anyway, the coins I got were nice, not shiny, but very little damage.

Most 43's are plated or dipped. Think of them them the way you would when you see "unsearched wheat pennies, bank wrapped"

What I'm saying is all price guides are just that, a guide. Where you live, demand, mintage, grade and condition of the coin are all used to determine the current value. Since you're new at this just beware to avoid a costly mistake.

    But, who dips them?

Thank you. I'll try to be careful and it's one of the reasons I've started with pennies. I guess I'm going to research who dips steel pennies and the process behind it. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.
