I just found a 1980p kennedy half double die reverse on the ATES. Of states take a lol

    I found this coin im new to this site and was told to join and. Im glad i did i found a 1980 p kennedy half dollar. And its a ddr on states.     Looks to be Mechanical doubling or worthless doubling.

    Machine Doubling is where the die is not set firmly in the press and moves during the strike so as to leave kind of a tail, usually flat and shelf-like.

    I also really like the definition Kentucky provided earlier, it's very easy to follow:

    This is contrasted from a doubled died, or hub doubling, where the die itself is what contained the error.
