Hello my friends on coin talk. I am trying to identify the coin below it weighs 6.33gm. I know its not in very good condition but would be interested to put a label on my coin holder. Thanks
The prow on the reverse reminds me of the coins of Arados, Phoenicia. Can not find this specific type though. Still, there is enough to see ... lets wait for some other input.
Pretty sure it's not from Arados, the obverse is totally different from ANY Arados coin I could find.
From the obverse writing I'd guess Roman of some sort (can you make out the letters?), but the ship on the reverse makes me think Greek, Seleucid, or Phoenician. If we knew what the thing in the center of the obverse was, it should be easier to ID the coin...Could be a chalice, letters "DC," a ring, a pot of some sort, a monogram, bull horns, or something else.
Yes I can't work out what it says or even if I am holding it the right way. Tried to take a bester photo below if it helps
With my old eyes I see a curule chair and a head of Astarte on the other side, like this one from Melita.
That's great it does look right. As I said it's very worn and almost impossible to see a head. I thought it looked like a boat bow. Thanks very much for your help.
