Do you know which U.S. coin/s get the most action around the world? The action-getter is the two American Silver Dollars, namely, the MORGANS and PEACE Because of the high interest in Silver Dollars, dealers inventories of Morgan and Peace Dollars have increased from about 30% to 300%. Not all of the action is on key coins. Not all the action is on MS grades either. Both are getting their share of attention, BUT I just got off the phone with Bill Anderson of www.paradisecoin.com and he explained several calls a day are from collectors and dealers wanting to purchase all his stock of Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars in grades AG and G. I took a peek at eBay a while ago and here's the numbers of Silver Dollars being offered versus the numbers on other U.S. coin denominations: Half Cents (491) Small Cents (17,127) Large Cents (1,834) Two Cents (364) Three Cents (642) Nickels (9,361) Half Dimes (486) Dimes (8,924) Twenty Cents (84) Quarters (17,165) Dollars (27,877) And there you have it. Do what you want with the info: ignore it or use it to guide you in your next purchases... I just thought you'd like to know... Clinker
Well I understand the Morgan it is a lovely coin LOL but not so keen on the peace dollar LOL, quite a interesting set of figures though, I must have a look at the large cents
Clinker, That interest in Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars is not due to them being collectible (i.e. for Collections and Sets)! The interest is due to the low price of Silver right now and the belief that Silver will soar to high levels again soon. Many folks are trying or should I say, hoping to buy up lots of Morgan and Peace Dollars price based on the lower price of Silver. However, many Coin Dealers will not sell their' Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars as well as much of their' ASE's price based on the price of Silver right now because they purchased much of their' inventory when the price of Silver was high. Even the bullion purchasing, smelting companies such as Kitco and Silvertowne are not selling bulk Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars right now. Frank
I agree that the numbers are just reflecting junk silver collectors - why else the AG/G remark? The e-bay numbers are interesting to follow and if you keep track over time, they are good for general trends. However, I do not understand at all what you mean here: Because of the high interest in Silver Dollars, dealers inventories of Morgan and Peace Dollars have increased from about 30% to 300%. 30% and 300% of WHAT?
there's a lot of old timers on this site like me 129 :kewl:so the big print helps some times:kewl: just a thought. jazzcoins Joe
FWIW, today the total dollar / Morgan / peace numbers are # Dollars (28155) # Morgan (1878-1921) (14281) # Peace (1921-35) (3197)
