I couldn't find a variety for 1922 (P) Peace Dollars that specifically called out a break in the tiara. The ones I've found are all "line in tiara" or DDOs. Is this just a grease-filled die or something else? Thanks in advance!
I checked that but couldn't find it. I see the same missing tiara on different varieties so maybe it's "normal" or a common issue with die wear on that specific device area of the die. 1922 VAM 7 ---- 1934-S VAM 3
This error in the die appears on all 1922's I have seen and PCGS pics. No extra value. Pardon my screw up with the pics.
This is what I was debating with on the NGC site about Saints....if you have to use a high-powered lens to see these differences, are they really worth it ?
Of course, having said that, I just ORDERED such a lens. But that's really just to be able to check out and compare what's in my Saints book to my actual Saints that I own. Can't see them at 8x, got a 30x coming.
I would guess the magnification of this coin is ~3X and the issue is visible on the coin without magnification because I know what to look for. I get your point. I sometimes wonder why it is so necessary to point out some die marker (a minuscule chip) so a new classification can be listed. It seems we are sheep being lead in a direction I'm not sure I want to go. How many variants do we need for the 1972 DDO if you need a supercharged microscope to observe the differences. Instead of expanding the variants, how about condensing to a few? That's just me. OK, everyone, let's hear your opinions. I;m sure there will be some.
