That works too. I don't have a scale so I "flip a coin". Probably not the most accepted method but it works
Even if you can't weigh it for a measurement, you might be able to compare it to a pre-1982 and a post-1982 cent using the ruler and fulcrum method someone here suggested previously. Your only problem might be precision, since the difference is so small.
