Great DAY!! Had a very succesful day!! Found 48 wheat pennies from 1940 the earlist to 1958 the last year. Was very excited!!!! Also found a 1939, 1940, 1946, and a 1959 nickels! 2 1976 Quarters which I like!! And to top it off, I found a 1960's Canadian penny! Pretty GOOD in my book!!! SM
Not bad Stop Motion. Did you find them in rolls from a bank or did you acquire them from a store? If you got them from a bank(s) how many did you go through to find so many?
Yeah, they were rolls from one bank. I went through 20 rolls a pennies, which averages to about 1 or 2 wheats a roll. Not bad though. Nickels 10 rolls. Quarters 7 rolls, hard to find quarters before 1965. SM
It looks like someone rolled them knowing what they were and just to get rid of them since they are all common date and above 1939. I thought about doing the same thing with some worn wheat pennies and then I found out about people throwing their pennies in the trash or melting them down.
Anyways now I remembered this story from a similiar chain and found it on google. It gives me hope that just maybe one day I will find that true rarity out there in circulation. When I used to work at a restaurant, I had someone pay their $1.87 bill with 4 silver 1964 Kennedy halves. They were EACH worth about $2.00!!!! I bought them out of the drawer!
Last week I received 3 2001 F* bill's in CU. (a semi scarce issue) I aslo found a total of 11 wheats, all from the 40's and 50's and last but not least, 2 1964 quarters.
What? Scarce? All 2001s or just * notes? Tell me fast. I have been burning through a supply of CU ones for another hobby I have.
Sorry I mis-typed, they are 2003's not 01's (that's what I get for playing on the computer at 3am) They are 2003 star note's, the F, or Atlanta district star note are currently semi rare. only 320,000 have been printed. The BEP has announced that the production of 2004A $1 bills will start in March 2005. If no more 2003 F stars are made I can easly see these going for $10 ~ $20 each on eBay. Personaly I keep all crisp star note's I find.
Word has it that they will be printing 2004A's for the $20s and the like and the lower ones will be 2003A's since the design has not changed at all but only the Treasurer.
A gentleman I know from Where's George runs a site devoted to paper currency. he's totally into keeping track of bills by serial #'s and series. He posted a while back that he called the treasury and had a nice long talk with one of the reps there and he was informed that the new one's will be 2004A. You can check out his web site at: http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/ He's a really nice guy and if you have any questions about currency he's really good about answering quickly.
Yes sir I go there all the time. I actually posted a message about the new series dates a few months ago on where's george and they said the guy who runs www.uspapermoney.info talked to them and that the new dates will in fact be 2003A and 2004A. I just checked uspapermoney.info and read what it says but it wouldn't make any sense if the new one dollar bills had 2004A. I can explain if you wish...
I got $20.00 in halves from a credit union to go through, and didn't find a thing. I took $10.00 of it back and ran it through the change-counting machine--as soon as I turned it on, but before I even put my coins through, there was a "tink" down in the reject coin slot. I looked in a pulled out a 1926 cent in what I judge to be very good condition. A little bonus!
