Oh, no no no. I understand why the mint prices are so high. I think I've read that there are even some laws that come into play when it comes to the mint selling bullion at a loss. I more mean the eBay crowd. Yes, I understand why if you just bought a Jackson's Liberty for $620, you're going to sell it for $650 to try to make a profit. But, the Martha Washington, if I recall, was sold for $425. Why is it on sale for $800 in some cases? That's what doesn't make sense to me... I
Dman, When the first spouse first came out, I splurged and bought two of everything..... because after I got burned by not buying the 06 AGE set, I wasn't going to let that happen again. So I had an extra set of both proof and unc of Washtington and Adams. When gold was on the rise this summer, I sold the 4 coins for $500 each on ebay. In fact I sold them within minutes of posting them. It just blew me away because I was wondering if I should have asked for more. But given the fact that gold was all over the place and the popularity of these was down, I felt that I did ok. I made my money back and then some. The UNC coins sold for $411 and the proofs sold for $430 originally from the mint. THe only reason that you are seeing a Washington on sale for $800 is either because of ignorance of the market, greed or that it is slabbed MS70. I have to suspect that the $800 is for a slabbed MS70 coin, because nobody sane is going to pay $800 for a relatively unpopular common coin that cost $400 in OGP. There are some nutballs out there on ebay. Anyway, good luck..... and call my guy. I sent you the info last week. See what he is charging. I went down there today and he is closed. He will be in tomorrow after 12 noon.
Yup I will give your guy a call, thanks for the info. I just have to work up the nerve to spend the 4K or so to get the first 8
Personally, I think they are overpriced compared to the other half ounce and $10 gold coins. To me, all modern made-for-collector coins are bullion coins.
