Looking for any info on this coin/medallion. I have looked on the internet but have had no luck. The coin is just a little smaller than a silver eagle dollar. You can just see the ealge rim when this coin is placed on top.

Y#45, 30g .900 silver (.8681 oz. ASW), Ontario Mint, 1973. Mintage 2,000,000 plus 200 proofs. Listed at $10 Unc, $15 BU, and bullion value (about $6.25) in lower grades. No explanation in Krause for the double date. Bolivar, known as the Liberator in several South American countries, was born in Venezuela in 1783.

The edge inscription is translated by Babelfish as "Centennial of the eficie of the Liberator in the Nonenda," so it apparently commemorates the centennial of something that happened on the centennial of his birth. Now, if someone can fill in the blanks - "eficie" and "nonenda", we'll know what it's all about.:p

listed in Krause as Y#45 (the Y# is from the old Yeoman numbering system, which Krause is gradually replacing with their own numbering, but they obviously haven't done Venezuela, yet).

In the 1996 edition, it lists the mintage as 2.000 (million) with a value of XF=$7.50, UNC=$11.50
In the 2002 edition, it lists the mintage as 200 pcs, with a value of UNC=$400.00, but also lists a mintage of 2.000 (million) proofs with a value of $11.50. I suspect that the numbers were reversed, and the mintage is 2.000 (million) business strikes, and 200 proof strikes.

BTW, as is noted on the coin, it is 30.000g, .900 SILVER, .8681 oz ASW

Well, this is a silver Venezuelan coin for centenial of Simon Bolivar. It weights 30g (~1 ounce), is made of 0.9 silver, has diameter of 39 mm. The mintage is 2000000 for regular strike and 200 for proof. In Unc condition is worth about $10 regular and $200 proof. HTH.

Thank you for the replies ! So many questions... .8681 ASW, What does ASW stand for ?
So was this coin for general circulation or a commerative celebrating something Simon Bolivar did? or is there anyway to find out? I have searched for info but have found nothing until now..
Also can you give me more info on Krause ? Is this like the red book of world coins? I will go check out Amazon and see what hey have for world coins.
    Thanks again

ASW = actual silver weight or the amount of pure silver contained in a coin.

Yes Krause is like the Red Book, but there are several volumes each the size of big city telephone books. Each volume covers a century.

This is a 1973 10-Bolivares coin of Republic of Venezuela commemorating the 100th anniversary of Simon Bolivar's portrait on their coinage.

The 1873 5-Reales silver coin was the first Venezuelian coin featuring the portrait of Simon Bolivar.
