    Calling on your experience. Is this a case of a doubled die, extreme MD or something else entirely?

    Well first off it's a Peace dollar, not a Morgan. Should delete & re-post w the accurate coin name so Peace dollar experts can help :)

    The U.S. Mint didn't didn't make Morgan dollars in 1923 at any of their branches.

    A 1923-S Morgan? First, it's a Peace Dollar. Second, it's worn. The light gives the affect you are seeing. Not a DDR but it could be MD.
