Ok, so i'm pretty sure this is not the iconic 1969S doubled die coin. But is it a double die still? or maybe an RPM? or just machine doubling? or a combination? I took several shots, different angles and lighting to try and capture the depth of it as best I could, but this coin is still very shiny.
Wait... so does this mean that no doubled die, even as spread as say the 1969s has doubling on the mint mark at all? That doesn't quite sound right. There aren't many doubled dies that are also RPMs, but there are some... http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1960Dddo1.html
Before 1990 RPM’s on a doubled die would be a separate die marker (like die gouges or die scratches). After 1989, a doubled mint mark would be indicative of a doubled die since the mint marks were no longer hand punched in each individual die. Doubled dies with RPM’s are possible prior to 1990. The 1969 S does not have a RPM.
Ok, so a closer inspection of the coin showed some of that same MD on this coin as well, but It's so much more pronounced on the mint mark, it's hard to even say it's the same doubling. I would figure MD to be pretty uniform, at least near the same area...
I was referring to the 1969 S DDO 001. There are at least 5 1969 RPMs that I can recall, but none that are associated with a DDO.
That MM is riddled with die chips. It is a common issue with this era of S mm. The coin is not a doubled die. You have taken some real nice photos though.
