When we post prices paid, especially those 20 years ago, we invite comparisons to what those same coins would bring today. I say that the current boon in EF+ rarities does not extend to coins like these. I would expect these to sell for under half of the quoted numbers and be unlikely to be listed by most sellers unless in large lots. I hope beginners realize that it is necessary to develop a feel for the difference between coins like maridvnvm's rare bust or octavius' well struck examples and the thousands of coins with poor striking and rough surfaces that populate certain sales venues. Whatever the year, there are sales either too high or too low to be understood easily. Treviri 1997 $16 from Dan Clark Lugdunum 2000 $22 from Stack's - Coin Galleries Auction
Just showing my coins irrelevant of cost or year purchased, just showing coins, don't be so critical, the begining collector can get coins that don't cost thousands of dollars, they can acquire coins that they enjoy.
Keep posting them coins, Jim! All Doug is saying is that by posting the price you paid for coins, you can confuse noobies. I personally like to know the deals people got on coins, though I know that I have to take into account the current market. And some feel it a bit tacky. I can live with that. I'm sure their are plenty here that would be bashful to show how much they, and I, paid for Athenian owls before this 54,000 strong hoard was found. Anyway, back to the post. I see lots of folks posting some really nice Carinus. Don’t forget Carus grandson, the extremely rare prince that never would be Nigrinian: Nigrinian DIVO NIGRINIANO AE AntoninianCONSECRATIO Reverse: Eagle Very Rare
Ryro I hope i will not disappoint you, I do have 191 different specimen of this Nigrinian with KAA in exe. So it's not rare at all. Doug mentioned it before, Numerian consecratio is harder to find only 14 specimen in my database with KAA in exe.
