Look what I found in a coinstar today. Makes me wonder what the rest of the batch was like.

I can't believe 1914 was 106 years ago. I remember a time when it was only 50 years ago.

What a nice find. Even with the hole in it, it is a cool coin and to have found it in a coin star, you hit a jackpot, so to speak. Made it through the first owner and then CoinStar and no one else got to the rejects before you did. Win, win, win.

I found a silver quarter recently in the coinstar, it's always good to check when you are in the supermarket. Nice find

Until The Corona struck, I always dumped my coins at my secondary bank. But now with the bank lobbies bolted up, I find myself visiting the coinstar at the local grocery store twice a week. I'm not enamored with taking the 11.5% hit, but the wifey starting barking viciously about the mounting bank bag pileup out in the garage. I have a little routine where I park right next to one of the shopping cart stations. Then I toss 3 large brown cloth bags (containing approximately $50 in cents each) into a shopping cart and in I go. I'm used to getting in and out of the bank in about 15 minutes. It takes me nearly an hour to run my coins through the darn coinstar machine. Plus, I have yet to find one coin of any kind in it's reject tray, so they must have an employee or two who immediately ponces on the machine soon after someone runs their coins. And I noticed the other day that Coinstar will generously donate your proceeds to charity for you if you would like. I wonder what the odds are that Coinstar would actually donate all of your proceeds to charity? I bet charity would receive a grand total of about 1% of your gift. Those bank lobbies can't open soon enough.

11.5%? No way. I'd store them or make an appointment at my bank for lobby services. That way I can talk them inside.

Yeah, and it's not the money that hurts, but moreso the extra time that it takes, Collecting Nut. And my apologies to the esteemed author of this thread. I thought I was posting this on the "Reject Tray & Coinstar Find" thread. By the way, nice find Jensenbay!

In my area you can convert to a gift card for no fee. Check it out.

Here's an even bigger mind-blower. The Mark McGuire / Sammy Sosa home run derby was 22 years ago. How is that possible? Seems like only a few seasons ago.

I bank with a smaller regional bank with assets of less than 20 billion. Not sure if you can expect the same customer service at one of the big banks, but my bank will allow lobby visits. However, it has to be by appointment only. In particular, for safe deposit box access, call them up ahead of time and they will let me in. I would think maybe they could do the same for you if you call the branch directly?

Thanks for the tip, POW (PrinceofWaldo)! My bank has always freely given me whatever coinage I requested, but I never thought of asking them for a lobby visit. I just assumed that closed meant closed. You know, when I think about it, I feel like a jackass being stressed about where or how to get rid of my CRH discards. There's throngs of people.....children, suffering out there as we speak.

It sure is, PrinceofWaldo. I vividly recall that summer and rooting like heck for Big Mac. Who at the time would have guessed that both players were kind of dirty.

Read an article about it last week in the Chicago Tribune. Apparently there is a soon to be released feature film on Sammy Sosa, kind of in the same genre as all the stuff on Michael Jordan. Thing is, --while maybe not universal--, the majority of Cubs fans consider Sosa persona non grata, and not just for the steroid scandal (which the article pointed out Sosa has never come clean on) but a whole bunch of other things like walking out of the last game of the season in 2004 before it ended. Turns-out he was just an overpaid cry-baby like so many of the others in MLB now days.
