So you think you know all about the Lincoln Cent... What's on the reverse of the Cents struck from 1909 until 1959? If you answered "wheat ears," you're wrong. If you answered "wheat stalks." you're still wrong, but "wheat stalks" is a better answer than "wheat ears." Actually, the only grain having "ears" is corn or maize (American Indian word for corn), The correct answer to the question is "wheat heads." Here's another tidbit many people, including numismatists, don't know: The Lincoln One Cent coin was the first "One Cent" coin to bear the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on it. NOTE: It is befitting that the Lincoln Cent was the First Cent to bear this motto because Congress authorized it's use on United States coinage by passing the Act of March 3, 1865 while Lincoln was President. Nice post Clinker, I've always known them as just 'Wheaties' or 'Wheat Backs'. I guess if someone tried to call them 'Wheat Heads' it would confuse people because the 'heads' side of the coin is got Lincoln on it, not wheat.
Also don't forget that the Lincoln cent was the first circulation coin to have an actual person represented on it.
Okay, now GD, if my jokes were deserving enough for you to get your gun, don't you think this is worth atleast a rifle? Punish him for shooting off at the mouth. Haha, nice one Frank! :thumb: Thanks for the trivia Clinker, very interesting. :thumb: Keep it up! Phoenix
mrbrklyn You're right about 1958 being the last year of the "wheat head" reverse cent, but my question was "until 1959," the first year of the Licoln Memorial reverse... Clinker
