Ordered some $$ from the bank. I guess they need time to pull out ammounts more than 5-10K. Anyway, I am looking 4 a list or something to make my searches go faster(errors, barr notes, interesting etc.). When the teller was counting it out, I saw 4 small faces. 1x1977 2 in the 80's and 1x1990. Any other things to look 4 in $100 bills? Should I keep the small faces? I'll post the pics l8r. Thanks

I wouldn't keep small face 100$'s unless they were from the 60's or earlier, and even then, it would depend on the condition.

I would keep the small faces if you can afford to do so as the government first started destroying the pre-1990 hundreds in 1991 and the 1993's or before in 1996. Obviously with this being done only so many old hundreds survive to this day and who knows how few will survive into the future. At the very least you could hold onto the old hundreds as an emergency cash reserve.

They destroy them only if they go through the Fed, otherwise they continue circulating if people will take them. My bank saves all older stuff for me, yesterday I got a 1934A $20. I passed up on the $900 worth of 1950B $10s though, but I did check them for stars, and there were none.

Thanks for the comments/advise. I tried to get $500's and $1000's, but they couldn't get any.:(

We are adding on to my house so I can take care of my grandpa and it will be gone in a couple of days(right after I search through it). It is the most cash I have ever had on me at one time. The bank lady said, go straight home. I said I'm goin to Mexico and if I get pulled over on the way, I'm sure I can get out of it.:)

Well, $500s and $1000s have been discontinued for the last 40 years, so if you could have gotten them...:eek:

And, about the $100s, check for any stars, and look them up on this website . Anything under 1,000,000 is a short run, and is worth keeping.

I would say that rule does not hold true for 100's.
it would have to be at the 320,000 point or less IMO.

The 1996 Cleveland Star is a modern rarity with only 160K printed.

    2001 First Print Atlanta Star (0 - 00320000*)

1985 New York Star, I believe there are three known

1985 New York Star, Print of 640K

    1981A San Fran Star

    1981 Richmond Star 640K print

Personally, I wouldn't keep any of the small face notes from 63A and after as they don't usually command a premium

I believe there was one case in the 1990's where a bank actually combed thru all their branches and came up with a sizable hoard of $500 and $1000 to resell to collectors.

There is a lot more stuff out there that is not in banks, well in teller drawers etc. It could be lurking in safe deposit boxes etc.

Occasionally the $500's and $1000's turn up locally in banks, but tellers will usually tell the person presenting it to take it to a coin shop where they will get more money for it.

Look for 2006 $100s printed in Fort Worth. No one seems to have found one yet.

On the new designed bills $5 through $100 look at the serial number. The number begins with two letters. The first letter corresponds to the series, the second letter refers to the Federal Reserve Bank.
If for example the bill had a number of HF xxxxxxxx A (there would be real numbers where the x's are), this bill would show that it was a series 2006 note from Atlanta. The Federal Reserve Banks are:
    A Boston
    B New York
    C Philadelphia
    D Cleveland
    E Richmond
    F Atlanta
    G Chicago
    H St. Louis
    I Minneapolis
    J Kansas City
    K Dallas
    L San Francisco

    Hope this helps.

There is a lady at my father n laws church that has had an older customer come and cash in a few $1000 bills on a few occasions.
