Hi everyone! Any idea what "Leicht bearbeiteter Schrötlingsfeh" means? Google Translate is pretty useless when it comes to understanding the nuance of some of these German coin descriptions. Google Translate doesn't like "Schrötlingsfeh" but: "Leicht bearbeiteter Schrötlingsfehler" = "lightly edited pest bug" Does that mean tooling? In which case, I'm out! Do we have a glossary somewhere of German numismatic terms? cheers Greg
"Schrötling" is plate, planchet or flan; "Schrötlingsfehler" -> the flan on which the coin was struck had a fault, and it was lightly tooled. You can find a useful numismatic dictionary here: http://www.muenzen-hardelt.de/dic/dict_eng.html#German linked from https://www.numismatikforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=2515 Hope this helps
Thanks so much! Just saved the numismatic dictionary as a Favourite. There's a lot of German language descriptions on MA-shops.
Great to be back! I haven't made a major coin purchase in about a year - with money going towards travel and a house! But i've never stopped coin window-shopping!
This is a great link for non-german speakers who use German reference books. A few years ago, I got a copy of Die Deutschen Notmunzen to attribute a number of pieces. Without it, I would have been total lost trying to use my standard German-English dictionary
