Indented or raised date

    Can someone please explain to me why some coins have dates that look raised, and some look engraved? Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer.

    Most coins have raised dates. Some recent Quarters have incused Dates. Just a different design. Is that what you are asking.

    If not can you give us an example?

    I have pennies that have
    engraved looking dates.
