This is an interesting sideline to the section on occupation coins & notes. It is about the coins & banknotes that were issued by the various regimes who willingly collaborated with an occupying power. The most well-known examples of such regimes are the following; Marshal Phillipe Petain of France. Vidkun Quisling of Norway. (Where the word 'quisling' comes from.). Ante Pavelic of Croatia. If you have got something to contribute, you are more than welcome to leave a posting here. Aidan.
Don't forget Dr. Joseph Tiso of Slovakia. Slovakia is often overlooked, as their presence is not as great as others in the Axis. The reason for this minor role is due to the fact that within the Czechoslovakian structure prior to WWII, the Czechs dominated everything, from politics to military. When the Germans demanded the Sudetenland, using it as a foothold towards Poland, Tiso worked with the Germans to declare the Slovakian Republic, in alliance with Nazi Germany.
Kuhli,I had forgotten about the puppet Republic of Slovakia. There were some very nice coins issued in those days. The modern Slovakian coins leave a lot to be desired in terms of their designs though. Aidan.
I dont collect the coinage or notes (never seen any) but I do collect the stamps of both Croatia & Slovakia from this period De Orc :kewl:
There is also a stamp from Carpartho-Ukraine,which was independent for a day.Have you got this one? Aidan.
Don't forget the Empire of Manchoukuo, with Pu Yi, the last emperor of China as head of State. Next to Manchoukuo, Japan installed some other puppet-regimes in China.
Dont think I have any from the Carpartho-Ukraine or for that matter Manchuria, but I do have occupation ones for Bohemia & Moravia, Serbia, Estonia, latvia, Luxemborg, Slovinia, Channell Islands & proberly a few more that I cant remember LOL De Orc :kewl:
I have got 2 of the Jersey 6d. notes, which were issued when the Channel Islands were under Nazi occupation. They weren't approved by the Nazis, but by the States of Jersey (the Parliament).I would like to get one of the Guernsey ones, which includes a 1/3 denomination. Aidan.
