I found this gold coin. I don't know what it is, date, or value. Should it go to NGC for grading? It came out of the Ocean. Any Ideas?
Looks like a venetian ducat but am not a specialist. Looks chipped or clipped. If you do not know anything about is a TPG is not a bad idea to authenticate. They are not worth, in that condition, a whole lot though.
Venetian Zecchino of Lodovico Manin (1789-1797). Looks chipped and broken around the edges. I would not send it in for grading, at best it will get details graded and with the problems it's worth about $125-150 at most. Barry Murphy
Nice! When we get off lock down, take it to a coin shop or jeweler who has an XRF scanner to get a reading on gold content. Most usually charge $5 for the service in my area. Then take a pic of the coin and the reading on the scanner together and that could work as your provenance.
Thank you for the ID. I should have taken it out of the foam holder for a better picture. The edgers are not broken or chipped. Yes, I found it with a underwater metal detector along with a pillar dollar. It's the one that's half encased in rock in this picture. I'm leaving it the way I found it because I think it looks more interesting that way. The other coins in the picture are some of my land finds. Thanks again for the ID Barry
