I discovered a 2005 Minnesota state quarter that has smooth edges. From what I've learned a broad strike error coin is thinner and wider but this coin is relatively the same size and does not appear to have been tampered with. I would appreciate any conversation I can learn from about this coin and possibly determining the value of it. I see all kinds of forums about the extra trees or cracks but none so far about this quarter with smooth edges. I has a defined deeper rim and usual and is thicker than normal. Tha is in advance for any help! -Josh-
It could of been Spooned or hammered on the edge. That would be PMD - Post Mint Damage alteration. Worth? 25 Cents Show us the edge. Oh.. Welcome to CoinTalk!
I attached photos to the thread can u view them? I appologize I am new here this is my first post. Thank you for the kind greeting as well!
Oh I am so sorry I thought I attached it already. I dont have the best gear to capture what u might need but it looks untampered with to me
Well darn. Thanks anyway for the information. Why would people spend the time altering the coin like that?
Oh wow I can zoom in on the picture where the two coins are vertical and I can actually see where it did have ridges at one time on the right hand side
Oh nifty. Thanks again to everyone. Do I need to close this thread or delete it now? I do plan on sticking around and learning more with this group. I have alot of other coins )
Welcome to Coin Talk. Once you post a thread you can't delete it. It can be edited, but after a certain time, I don't know if you can even edit it. Only one of the moderators can remove it but again, I don't know what reason they need to delete it. I'm happy to see you decided to stick around. You'll learn a lot on this site.
Welcome to the neighborhood, TT! You can't delete your thread. They are here in perpetuity. Only a mod (moderator) can delete a thread, but most often, mods like Jim @desertgem would prefer to make us suffer with our mistakes. ~ Chris
And I wouldn't delete it as is. You are new and had a question. You presented it in a courteous manner and learned something. All things the forum appreciates. We don't delete things others can learn from. Do not be ashamed of it , flaunt your learning ability. Jim
Welcome to CT, we are fortunate to have members like you. I noticed some reeding left on the cladding, probably just skillfully smoothed down...who knows?
You can see the very edge of the reeding on the lower right in Kentucky's photos. Definitely damaged as it's been smoothed down after leaving the Mint.
Wow thanks again everyone. Thanks for the kindness and support. It is really appreciated and I will stay because this whole experience has sparked a learning interest in me! take care! I look forward to days to come!!
Something else to think of........ When someone else googles the same thing you posted about, this thread might pop up and they now have found their answer AND a great group of people who are more than willing to help out!
Agreed but if I didnt have the question I would have never found your group as well. It was a top hit in the coin collecting forums on google thus I think this great group is doing well both ways
