I'm going to answer #9; "Do you think that your collection will one day rank among the best known?' I hope so! But really, I do hope so. I plan to get a full set of currency (Paper Money) from every country printed after 1965. :mouth: Let's see that happen! XD
I guess I can answer question #1 - "What is it that attracted you to Paper Money collecting?" For me I guess it is the varied images and designs that you can see on US and World notes.....Newer US notes are pretty boring but some of the vignettes on some of the different world notes are really nice. Smaugy
Non of the Q's really apply to me, except #1... so I'll answer that. the simple answer: this forum! I got to see all the cool old money, and thought it was great, so I began collecting. then i learned about star notes, errors and such, and started looking in my change too
Oh RickieB, My question was a joke! I'll answer many of them one at a time. First being what got me into it. Old story but hey here goes. I've been a coin collector most of my life. Various jobs led me to handling lots of paper. One day, while working in a truck stop, a bunch of 1950 series' $20 notes came in. I figured "why not" and bought a bunch at face value. Mind you I had NO interest in paper and just figured I MIGHT be able to sell some off at a profit to buy more coins. I put them on ebay with big pics and an honest "I know squat about paper" description. They were selling. No huge profit but I decided I needed to learn. First book I bought was the Blackbook and I did that basically to learn some grading. I learned more from Blackbook and started looking harder. It wasn't about making money now it was about making a few bucks to afford more paper AND coins. Paper money was pretty hot back then as it turns out but was dead here in the Midwest. I bought and sold a lot of "funnybacks" at a good margin and still have my original collections. During this time I hooked up with one of my "mentors". He's on CT as it turns out. Look up Lewminator. Lew taught me volumes. But I digress into another question.
yup, I first saw Lew on the PCGS forums, and then he came here. He sure knows his stuff. I wish he would hang around here more often.
