Confirmation from the mint that the set has been sent out. Well, at least the delivery info has been sent to the F'ers (FDX). Anybody else have hopes or expectations for receiving this set?
My shipping status says PROCESSING. It may be a couple months before I get it. It took about that long for the 5oz Apollo coin after I placed an order. I placed that order the first day those commems were offered.
Mine says processing still but they took my money from the bank 2 days ago. I'm sure they will get to it, they aren't sold out or on backorder yet.
I was going to buy all three sets at once this year. I was waiting and I guess that wasn't a great thing to do at this point if they are all sold out. Was this a limited thing with no mintage after that or was this one of the mints here's a limited edition BUT we might mint more later?
I agree. When I first started to get back into the hobby I made sure I was waiting to grab it up as soon as I could. NOW, if I miss it, I'll get it later. I might have to pay a little more but chances are I won't. The thrill is still there to open it up for the first time but if I miss it like I did this one, I'm sure it will come back around.
Thanks for sharing those photos! I like the set and hope I can get a complete set of those W minted nickels.
It's my understanding that it was to be an unlimited release, however, the SF mint had to close and the US Mint only had 190K + sets ready to go, so the initial offering was the 190K with the caveat that they may make more later. What I don't know is which mint is limiting supply.....Is it SF not being able to produce Silver Sets.....Or West point not being able to supply the nickels......I knoe SF was closed for awhile. With production schedules all backed up because of the closings.....it's a crapshoot.
San Francisco and West Point both closed. Only Philadelphia and Denver are operating for circulation coinage and closed to the public. And I think San Francisco is more of a temporary shutdown compared to West Point which is in New York and in a more troubled area compared to San Francisco as far as the virus is concerned. West Point shut down bullion coin production also. I don't think it's so much the W nickels or the virus but more of a volitility with silver as to why the limited first release of the silver set and the the virus shutdown. The mints always been funky with silver bullion production when silver or gold becomes desirable and may go up in price when it becomes harder to source it for them.
West Point is open with limited production capacity, likely due to reduced staff for physical distancing measures. San Francisco is closed and may not return to operations for several more weeks. The question is, when they do reopen, what will they work on first. If they still intend to get yet unreleased products out this year, the silver proof set may not get resupplied for some time, if at all.
