is this a mercury dime error coin ?

    ..got this coin and i'm really at a lost...i have been seeing the same kind on ebay w/ the owner having the same question...could this be a new variety in ovd , maybe due to a weak strike? please advise...(see attachments)

    Looks to me to be an attempt to turn a 1942 into a 1942/1 but I don't know these well enough to say for a fact. ;)

    that's possible, too , i guess..but you're right, we need more data to have a better than speculative conclusion....let's wait for more input.

    you know, if you check out the 1942/1 mercury dimes on the executive coins co. website, you'll know what i mean......:bow:

    this is the 1942/1 mercury dime posted at the executive coin co. website...it it has a d mintmark...mine has none...there are 2 other examples w/ d mintmarks w/o the overdated visible.....:bow:

    If the one you posted is in your possession, send it off to have it authenticated. That's the only thing to do with something like this, if it is to be taken credibly. ;) If you are looking at buying it, do it with the understanding that you will be sending it off and if it comes back not what it's touted to be, you get your money refunded, to include the cost of the TPG & shipping. ;)
