Would this be a defective planchet. Before strike? Also is the "TY" on liberty doubled? Something funny going on there.

Ok.. Let me ask you something. After so many threads with similar looking quarters that all are damaged. You still haven't gotten it? o_O

That is damage. The Rim took a hit during circulation. Someone altered the rim by hitting it or using it as a tool.

Sorry.. No doubled die issue there.

Thank you.. explaining it helps a lot.. Ive been looking in the wrong places for experience. So many different photos of errors and none seem to be alike.. Seems like everyone posts all these errors and have no clue. Thank you for the explanation. Yes I'm having a hard time imagining some of this. Damage. Some must take an enormous amount of heat and pressures.. You're very helpful. Sorry if I've bothered you. I sent one more.

Thank you so much. I get a bit defensive when people have snide remarks. Its frustrating Not! Not because I can't take it. Its because I spend so much time, and put in a lot of effort to understand; then find out they have no idea either. If they're trash coins, that's fine with me. The knowledge is worth more to me than the coins. Sure appreciate you all...

The key is understanding the minting process. The more you learn the less time you'll be wasting looking at damaged coins. Try this site

It has info on the minting process and determining worthless doubling. Also search for YouTube videos from the mint (mint.gov). Coin Week also has some videos.

BTW. Avoid most of the other YouTube junk. Lots of people just trying to get clicks but not telling you the whole story. You'll end up thinking you can find a fortune in your change. If it were that easy we would all be sitting on a beach in the Caribbean drinking rum punch with little umbrellas in them instead of answering questions on coin talk

    Hope this helps

It's damaged. Look at the rim and you can see where it started.
