This is one of those coins that I have been waiting on for some weeks to make it's way to me for some weeks. Bought after the lockdown had set in it has taken about 3 and a half weeks to make it from the US to the UK. It was released to the Royal Mail on Friday and arrived this morning but took about 3 weeks to make it out of the USPS.

It joins a few of it's fellows in my speciality sub-collection of short legend dies of the eastern issues of Septimius Severus. This one adding to the number I have from this obverse die.

Martin, That's an impressive group of denarii :jawdrop:! I think you have cornered the market on coins from that obverse die .

Not quite.... but I am working on it. There are still some reverse types that I am aware of that exist with this die that elude me.

As you can imagine, chasing coins for a particular obverse die or even a set of obverse dies, where each of these obverse dies is rare is a matter that takes huge amounts of patience.

Congrats on finding another, Martin! I'll echo others in that your set above is very impressive! A great new addition!

And now another from the same series. A different obverse die.

IMP CA L SEP SEV - PER AVG COS II

When I bought this coin I han't actually realised that I had a double die match but the older coin looks so different due to condition that I hadn't put the two together.

    New coin:-
Obv:–IMP CA L SEP SEV PER AVG COS II, laureate head right
Rev:– IOVI VICT, Jupiter, seated left, holding Victory and sceptre
    Minted in Emesa. A.D. 194-195
    Reference:– RIC -. RSC -. BMCRE -

    previous example

so I'll just call this an upgrade

Other reverses from the same obverse die....

Rev:– BONA SPES, Spes standing holding flower and lifting skirt

Rev:– BONI EVENTVS, Fides standing left holding basket of fruit and corn ears

Somehow I have managed to obtain 3 of these..... not sure how or why.... I have seen the obverse and bought them and found that they were die matches later....

Rev:– VICTO-R AV-G, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm
