Warning: possible 1893-s scam on ebay

A seller with an old account and very limited activity until this august now has an AU 1893-s Morgan up for bid, the description is garbled and bears little relationship to the imaged item in an NGC slab. I do not know for a fact that this is a scam, but it certainly looks worrisome.

I totally agree that this is suspect. The seller has pretty much sold only Disney lapel pins in the past and this is a major jump from those. I'd like to know more about how he came to own such a piece? They don't just drop out of the sky . . . unless they're stolen.

Because of the seller's lack of history selling coins, I would not bid on this but that doesn't mean it isn't legit, it only means it's ripe for being a scam so I'd recommend staying away.

By what I can tell, the seller used a template to list these and didn't make the proper changes to the template to list this and other coins properly.

I personally wouldn't condemn him for the boo-boo's but I am leary of this. Also, if it is legit, the coin for sale is a NGC AU-50 1893-S Morgan and not any of the other ones within the description.

Yeah, the description reads like it was written by someone out in lala land. Bidding is over $5400, I can only "hope" they are shills, because I have a very bad feeling about this.

 

Agree completely with what has already been said. This guy bought an 1883s in a wcg slab not too long ago. Funny business.

 

I reported it for the wacko listing. Why do I have the feeling that the 'winner' is going to receive an 1883-s in a WCG slab, with the seller claiming it was what was in the description? (Which would of course be a pathetic excuse, but he would have time to empty his paypal account and abscond.)

I'm with ya... I wouldn't condemn someone for making errors either.

But a legit AU '93-S is potentially a $20,000 coin.

Surely any real dealer would get their act straight on such a listing and not have sloppy errors on such a piece.

This so called "Dealer" deals in Mickey Mouse pins (Disney Lapel pins) so they don't have a clue when it comes to coins. :goofer: Look at their feedback as a seller to see what they've been selling prior to this group of coins.
