Am I too picky about WLH coins?

So I've been asked to post the full coin that I didn't like because it didn't have the head detail that I wanted. This is probably one that came from the collection my father-in-law passed on to my son. Not so bad, actually, but not one I would have bought, I don't think.

It's a common date but it's nice enough to fill a hole in an album.

If he's talking about the price difference between EF and AU circulated 40's, he's not even thinking about the price of proofs!

    Talk to your audience, man.

This is true. I typically look at coins priced around $30-40. Sometimes I can go higher, but not very often.

It's a 41-s, a lot of the s mint walkers have weakness of strike on the head and Liberty's left hand

1941-S is generally a poorly struck issue, and that's why all the detail is missing down the middle of the obverse. With that in mind, look through a lot of 41-Ss, and you might find one you like. For 1940-S, even coins grading as high as MS66 have bad detail on Liberty's left hand and the eagle's left leg, so you might never find one of those you like.

But what I tend to focus on is the head details. That's the area I am talking about here.

As go the left hand and left leg, so goes the head, although not quite as severely.

On the '41S, I've seen uncs with less detail.

The '41 S & 42 S are very tough to get with detail.

I put together short sets back in the late '70's and those 2 were killers.

Sad that I sold them, after/during the divorce.

Yeah, I get it. My reaction was sorta knee-jerk based on your comment seeming so out of place relating to the OP's question, and it seemed out of place in context of the thread - but you are absolutely correct in saying that the proofs are going to usually have the absolute best strikes. That might be good knowledge for someone else reading the thread.

Sorry if I came off a bit too harsh on that reply.
