Im looking to buy a metal detector. But I dont know where to start. What are some brands/models I should look for or at????
Yes but it sucks. It makes that daarn beebing noise for everything and i cant get it to shut up unless I turn the whole darn thing off so i dont take it out much?
You should provide a little more details, such as do you plan on using it on a salt water beach? Or how about underwater? Where you plan on using it and what you plan on searching for, has everything to do with which one you will want to buy. Ribbit
Yes I do own one and they can be alot of fun. The one i own is some what of an older model it's the Garret metal detector GTI 1500. I used it several times with some good results. The only thing with finding coins, most of the coins i found were under the ground and corroded with no value. I guess it depends on what you want to use it for . Jazzcoins joe
I purchased a White Eagle Spectrum about 10 years ago. It's a super nice tool. Very good at telling you whats there(readout states Quarter, penny, bottlecap, steel, ect.). Plus it has a graph reading to further identify the object. I love to run it, but i'm lost as to an area where i can metal detect. I'm not sure of park regulations on that. So i've mostly used it to find lost items, i have even used it to find parts lost from my farm equipment in the field. I'd check the ebay auctions for a used one, it might save you some money.
Hi, I use Minelab Explorer SE, imo its the best Metal detector in its class by which i mean the Coin and Relic purpose md's. The menu is user friendly and only takes a few minutes for you to understand how to work with it. As JAZZCOINS said that he finds corroded coins with no value etc.. with the Explorer you can teach it how to eliminate objects with a certain signal that you get from them,so next time you swing above it you wont hear anything it is very usefull IMO. I have been searching quite alot with my MD and have found lots of things with it from coins to jewelery and other stuff... too many to list My brother had a Garret Ace 250 which i have had a go with before i got my Explorer, but to tell you the truth i didnt like it alot and the reason for that is because it misses alot of the good objects where as my explorer usualy doesnt miss anything. The price of those 2 Metal detectors is alot but the price does make alot of difference!
wlcome to the detecting forum! I have three of them, in fact I was at an organized hunt all weekend in Wildwood, NJ. The Whites DFX is the best, land or beach, in my opinion, but NOT a water machine. I, personally, have always favored Whites. :thumb:
I have a White Prism - I like it ok but I think its broke. On the box, it shows gold and silver coins, gold jewlry, etc. But all I ever find is garbage.
i just put a Whites Prizm V on layaway. The dealer is in my coin club and a former president of the ANA and a really good guy to talk to
Ok Im up in the air. Im going to try some out this weekend. Ill let you know. Im hoping to try out the White and the Garret side by side. I wish there was more reviews out their for these types of things. Thanks for all the insight it definately helped.
I hope to use it for coins and jewlery. Fields, parks and beaches both salt and fresh. Mostly Fields.
