Being trying to research these, really hard to find any information on them. Would be very appreciative if anyone knows. Sorry to trouble you all. I enjoy finding out for myself but have come stuck with these. Many thanks
The top row, left and middle coins appear to be Seleucid, both cite "King Antiochus" but there were quite a few Seleucid kings by that name. Top row, right looks Ptolemaic. Hopefully someone else can narrow those to a specific Seleucid king (and help with the other coins).
The bottom right with the horse is this one. Seleukos II Kallinikos, 246-226 BC. Bronze, 17 mm, 4.20 g, 1 h. Uncertain mint associated with Antioch. Diademed head of Seleukos to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ Horse advancing left; ΔEΛ monogram below. Refs: SC 710a. SNG Spaer 434
The top middle one reads BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANTIOXOY ΦIΛOΠATOΡOΣ and features Athena standing left. That would be a coin of Antiochos IX Philopator.
Bottom left is Ptolemy II Philadelphos Head of Alexander wearing Elephant scalp and aegis. 285-246 BC
Top left is Antiochos VIII Epiphanes minted in Antioch, on the reverse Tyche standing and BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ ANTIOXOY EΠIΦANOYΣ. Quite a rare coin, I can not find an example on acsearch.info. Reference is: SC 2314. Top middle is Antiochos IX Philopator (as @Roman Collector said), minted in Antioch, with on reverse Athena holding Nike. Reference: SC 2368.
Thank you yes you’re right. Bought this great book today and identified many but struggling with these ones. Any ideas?
Let us point out that Plant is a good beginner book for the purpose but there are no books that cover ALL of the Greek coins and especially not the thousands of little bronzes which quite simply did not get studied to the degree of the big silvers. These coins always existed but when I first got interested dealers rarely had these because the demand was low. The book required to ID all of these coins would make RIC look like a pamphlet. Is the last one Parthian? I'd start looking at coins of Vologases IV with Artemis reverse.
Looks like youre almost there. Vologases IV with Tyche I believe. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/an...80_ad_ef_ex_freeman__sear/930469/Default.aspx The book is fantastic for a beginner like me. I found 80% of the 15 coins I have . Thank you. This one still can't find.
