What do you think of this monster toned peace $? The colors are vivid and it being slabbed is huge!!

However it brings up the question of whether it is AT or NT? So what do you think is this AT or NT? Do you think this coin was in the same condition when it was slabbed?

I wonder how closely the coin in hand resembles the image.

There's enough "coin doctors" out there that I would question if it's AT or not. Even if it's NT, IMO the buyer overpaid for the coin. (But it's their money).

If it's artificial, it had to be done 30 years ago...

I believe it is AT or photoshopped, but not for me.

This coin has been popular around social media lately. The picture is photoshopped.

Really? Someone’s gonna be in for a $3000 disappointment, then.

I voted AT in spite of the old holder due to lack of elevation chromatics. I also find it hard to believe PCGS would have slabbed that so long ago.

Natural toning, but not a "monster".

Are you kidding? I don't believe it's natural, but, if those colors were legit, that is absolutely a monster coin.

    Here it is, for reference:

    The reverse is completely untoned.

If that is true, would that be grounds for an eBay claim item not as described?

There is no way that coin is worth over $3,000. It only sold for that because a couple of people got hung up on the color. I am glad that I do not suffer from "monster toning syndrome."

The toning looks manufactured to me. Both the colors and the shape.

stop using the M word - it's silly and unnecessary - every time I see that description for a toned coin, I think of this:

Since this coin began making the rounds several weeks ago, the general consensus has been that the toning is natural but the photos are without a doubt juiced.
I have the same opinion. The color on that coin, although overly saturated using some sort of photoshop, appear 100% natural to me.

@TheFinn @Paul M. The coin is nowhere near the realm of being a monster. It doesn’t even have reverse toning. The colors are juiced using photoshop or the like and I presume are nowhere near that vibrant in real life.
Yes, the toning is amazing...FOR A PEACE DOLLAR, but it is in no way a “monster toner.”

I've only been collecting coins for 65 years. The coin in question appears to be End Of Roll toning. I've seen this type of toning many times in 65 years. Unless collectors have dipped out other coins like this, there should be many coins with this similar toning in the collector community. Definitely not worthy of a $3,000 + bid. Once the banks open, I'm going to go through my thousands of silver dollars and pick out all the bank wrapped end of roll coins and see if I can find another person with more money than brains. And Safe Deposit Box is not good during a virus situation.
