I got these two pennies from different stores 2 days apart ,was there any copper on them at all and why are they thinner and bigger than regular pennies
They have been damaged, sometimes called "Texas cents". Usually done by placing a coin between two pieces of leather and pounding with a hammer. Can be done with heat also but must be done just right.
I agree with Texas cent/penny. A hydrolic press works better than the hammer method, as the pressure is distributed evenly across the surface of the coin which helps to keep the coin round.
They're just damaged. They have been beaten to appear larger and then the environment had a go at them.
The key is the leather. It conforms to the surface of the coin so the pressure is applied to all points equally. The letters do "stretch" but so the the field and the devices all in equal proportion resulting in a larger coin with larger features but all in the same proportions as on the original coin so it still looks normal.
Your penny is older wheat penny it's not like a zinc penny that has the new thin layer. And with mine it's got a rough texture but even the beard is finely sharp strike it's like it never had the copper put on it
