I don't think that the obverse has enough luster to get a bean for the AU-58 grade. The reverse does, but that is not unusual for this design. I agree with @longshot that it barely makes the AU-58 grade.

I’m reading the images a bit differently on that one- what seems at first to be luster breaks in the obverse fields looks like the outline/threshold of the crusty toning. I don’t know how to describe this look but the slightly “dusty” original appearance of the surfaces is a look I’ve observed that CAC likes. It’s also one that is hard to showcase the luster you see in hand in images as it is there but the skin veils it... this coin has surfaces like what I’m describing as well and was graded AU58 CAC.

I’ve heard it said that CAC loves luster but in my experience when it comes to CAC approval strict originality trumps blazing luster for the grade.

Not my wheel house, but a study of photograde indicates to me this is a 58. Take that for what it’s worth. No sticker.

    I'll say YES to Green
Looks original and solid for a 58.

Rd. 10 was 4-4...I interpreted that CircCam would consider it a no (based on a similar example), which swayed the overall vote to a lean towards no.
Rd. 13 was tied between green and gold at 4-4...I interpreted that geekpryde would consider it a gold

Please continue to opine on the 1835 dime posted on the prior page by @ldhair

That dime is stunning to me. Bean or no bean...if it is a 58 marks on the chin or not don't matter, only wear and luster matter. It has great eye appeal.

Don't mind me just the fireball talking tonight...

No bean on the dime. There are too many marks on the chin, and a scratch on the reverse near the wing. I think the surfaces have a lot of marks, even if the wear is correct for a 58.

I agree with you about the marks. Thought you would remember the coin. You looked at it twice at Fun;) We were both busy look at the great food in front of us. Looks a bit different under the better lighting that was used to image it.
I said no to the coin the first time I looked at it. A day or so later, after a few drinks in the bar, I fell in love with it. I'm happy to own the coin. Fits well in my Bust collection.

Haha, now that you mention it I do remember that coin. I didn't have a loupe, and it was dark, so I didn't notice the marks at the time.

That's the problem with drinking a few too many at the bar. You may regret things in the morning.

    OK, I'm up:

Here's a 1908-S IHC, PCGS MS-64BN. I have included two sets of photos of the same coin. The first set (with the white background) are from the very well-known coin dealer I bought it from. The second set (with the black background) are my photos. So, you get two slightly different looks at the same coin. CAC or No-CAC?

Here's the issue: Does the nick on the jaw cause an issue with grade? ie does it keep it from MS64 or not? I don't know. So I'll guess a YES to a green bean.

    *Back to the Indian Head*

I think it is a YES on a Green...again original look and at least a B for the grade.

@jom the nick might be less noticeable in hand; it could dissuade me from liking the coin (or purchasing it) but won't necessarily matter for the sticker
