anyone ever see or hear or mini coins? My camera is out of order so I cannot post pictures, but they look like regular coins (pennies and quarters) they have dates and mint locations, but they are very small.
Have not seen any US "mini-coins" but I have some Dutch pieces like that. They are small, roughly half the size of the actual coin. These pieces were made and issued by the Dutch mint but have of course never been legal tender. http://home.hccnet.nl/mj.luites/images/sets/nl/mini/1998/m1998-k.jpg Such a gulden sets ("mini-muntset", issued yearly until 2001) were/are fairly easy to get; in 2002 the Mint issued a euro set but then stopped making them. Would be interesting to get US "coins" in similar sizes ... Christian
Not my picture here, but it gives you an idea what I am referring to. http://www.jjcoins.com/Ebay/amini.jpg
You can buy minicoins on the internet, I have a bookmark to a site that sells a big variety...there have been a few threads about them.
Interesting (and I am tempted to get one of those ) ... these are not made by the US Mint but by a third party, right? Still fun souvenirs/collectibles. Christian

The Coin Cottage made the dies The source of those mini coin sets is The Coin Cottage in Terre Haute Indiana. I had a dialog with the inventor & die maker several years ago. The company’s business card is printed on a wooden nickel which is still sliding around in my desk drawer. It lists their phone number as 812-232-4405. OK, I just called it & got a bulk quote for 1000 sets & 100 sets. If anyone is interested, then call them directly. Very best regards, collect89

I have an 1874 Swedish 10 Ore that's a tad bit smaller than my pinkie finger nail. Smallest coin I own. These "mini-coins" are pretty interesting, but I have to ask; what's the point?? Novelty I'm guessing.
I don;t know if anybody remembers , when those lincoln cents were around with kennedy facing lincoln on the obverse those were novelty coins, Jazzcoins joe
Are you familiar with the "Panama Pill"? In 1904 the Panama 2 1/2 Centesimos "Panama Pill" was pretty small. I only know this because I bought one on Ebay last week. It is small diameter, thick & made of silver. It is shaped more like a Valium pill than a California fractional gold. I think that Panama reissued the Panama Pill in 1975. Very best regards, collect89
U should see the mini 3c silver I got off ebay. Half the diameter of the back cap of a bic pen. I almost emailed the seller cause I thought he didn't send it at first. Also got a Gold JFK mini half, but it alot bigger than the 3c.
Hm, never heard of that, but as someone who's familiar with taking valium , I can picture the size haha. I'll have to look into that Panama one.
The school nurse at my college would hand out percacet(sp) for just about everything. If she gave out Panama Pills instead it would have made the visits much more enjoyable.
Here's an old thread of some mini coins, some real, some not ...... John http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=34793
