Ok, I found a strange few coins. The one on the left is a 1969D in fairly good condition (scan sucks).. and on the right I have a 1956 cent. Both look kind of silver toned in person, but the 1969D sticks out the most. It's consistent in color on front and back and side.

Anybody have any idea what's up with these?

They look plated to me. I have several like the '69-D that are mildly magnetic. If you'll notice the glare on these isn't "cartwheeling" (i.e., circling around the coin as you tilt it away from you under lighting).

The 1969 could have been dipped in Mercury too.

It could be post mint silver or zinc electroplating.
Can you show better photos? That may help.

I don't have a way to weigh it. Also I'm not sure I could take much better photos.. still learning on that one. Is there a resource on plated coinage or alternate metals used? The only ones I've heard of were the steel penny's.. but like I said, I'm a noob at this.

    Any help would be amazing.

It is a near certainlty that the coins were plated.

    GD,

What would you say the grade on this one is? Thanks for your help!

They both have VF details at best. But because plating is considered damage and because it literally covers up the details the coins would be considered ungradeable. Not even ANACS would grade these.
