I posted this on a different CT Forum topic and was advised that maybe I should try another forum topic like ' chat'. Please let me know what you think of this 1999 cent. There is are little tiny scratch behind his collar and one above the one of the date pointing to the nose.. otherwise the obverse is perfect and the reverse has non at all. What grade do you rate this cent at. Also, what do you think the value might be?
.......if you got it slabbed you could look at this just for a ball park idea. http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?c=45&title=Lincoln+Cent
Memorials are my area, but everything I see says that is real and nice. It appears to be full red. If it is, it is as nice as has ever been found. I would go at least 66 and probably 67. I cannot find one sold on Heritage, so the only price I can give is from PCGS guide ($1100 - $2250) and those are for PCGS certified coins and still high for that.
does someone have a wide AM and a normal one to post next to each other so I can see the diff. I don't see it here. thanks kona
Thanks Rim's cents. I don't know how to grade coins yet but I look for wear, color, sharpness of date and lettering, scratches, etc. I think this coin would maybe grade AU fifty something. I do like your grade much better. I've never sent a coin to be graded as I am what is called a casual collector. But the people around me are getting annoyed by cointalk. PCGS or ANAS or who? Redbook says $500??? Help. zg
My monitor is not the worlds best (it may be close to the world's worst), but I see no wear on it. You also describe no wear on the coin in you OP. If there is no wear, it is MS. As to who to send it to slab, that depends an why you want it slabbed. If all you want is to have it authenticated, ANACS, or ICG are probably the cheapest. If you want to sell it, PCGS probably carries the highest price, but they are the most expensive. NGC may be the most accurate grader.
Honestly, I'm thinking AU (and not because GD said it, lol, that was my first thought. ) Still a very nice coin IMHO, and should fetch (it's coming) a (prepare yourself) pretty penny. Phoenix
I removed it from its flip and really eyeballed it with my 10x magnifier. No, I do not beleive the cent has been cleaned. By comparison with like cents, even 99's Nothing showed that it had been cleaned. There are several surface scratches on the obverse side but they are very small. the reverse is very untouched. The Rlm, pun--corny, is very smooth. MUCH better than it should bE since it' s been circulated. Abe's hair does show the slightest little wear on top, I think, lol. There are small scratches on his shoulder at the seam. That's all I can see. OH, Abe badly needs a shave. The finish on both sides is semi gloss to flat. Can't see an image or reflection. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUT. I will get it certified and not slabbed by PCGS and let you know what grade they rate it . zg
Ineed help in finding out what are the objects between the columns. I noticed them while review the condition of the coin.
Clash marks happen when the 2 dies come together and there is no planchet in between them. The dies can then leave marks on each other and the coins struck with those dies afterwards will have the marks.
Those are the ghosts of Black Slaves in reverence to the great emancipator who watch over his monument vigilantly along with the dead Northern Soldiers who died bravely at Gettysburg to heal the nation and to set the Slaves free. Excellent excellent shot. They only rarely allow themselves to be seen. Ruben
