I went to the customer service area at a Rite Aid and got two pennies each were mint fresh 2005 P and the other 2005 D. Also got a standing liberty quarter buying easter candy, only 1930d common date, but never seen one in circulation before.
British Farthing. Gwinco, the Farthing is a coin from Great Britain. As yours is dated 1920,it is one issued during the reign of King George V (1910-36).The Farthing is 1/4 of the pre-decimal British Penny. The way to write Farthing in short notation is 1/4d. Aidan.
That is wonderful to hear about the quarter Golden! What state do you live in? Out here I never ever see new P mints and when I see one or two after several months they are usually circulated and not worth keeping so I have to order the P mint penny rolls off of ebay.
Hi all from Minnesota, got some nice planchet defect quarters (clad defect). A 1976-D with 2/3 copper showing on reverse, and a 1981 100% copper, near as I can tell, both in change. Also recently bought a couple 1938-D Buffaloes in PCGS containers, both are MS66, and I noticed one of them is a rotated-die, approx. 35-40 degrees. $53 well spent! Now, if I can figure out how to get images and upload them to the right forum...
Interesting coins but the '81 copper is nothing out of the ordinary as the mints went to zinc in 1982 hehe. I personally keep the copper pennies I find for investment purposes as the price of copper has more than doubled in the last 2-3 years.
If the price of copper goes any higher....pre-1982 pennies might start being slagged. What is it something like 150 pennies to a pound. (please correct me if I'm wrong...couldn't remember if its 150 per pound or half pound). The spot price on copper was $1.50 a pound this AM....and has been on a steady rise since last year.
Bacchus I bank at Choice One in cedar springs. They have a branch on Alpine and 6 mile also. Hope this helps
There are 144 copper pennies in a pound and I learned of this when I was into buying those supposedly unsearched wheat cent lots. So now it is cheaper to melt the old pennies down and I even saw a story on the news about how the price of copper was going up and towards the end they talked about it being worth while to melt them and some guy said there is a company that will melt them for him for a percentage. Because of this I fully advocate the removal of every wheat penny out there in circulation and I personally keep every copper penny I find for investment purposes.
Something you might wish to keep in mind - copper is an international metal commodity just like gold & silver. It's not that the price of copper is going up - it is not. It is that the value of the US dollar is going down. Copper cost no more in other countries than it did 3 yrs ago. So just remember, if and when the value of the US dollar goes back up - the price of copper here in the US will go back down.
Well...I've never heard of the value of the dollar ever going back up. It always seems to just go down and down and down. Did you know that the value of the dollar lost 1/5th of its value in the first four years of the bush Administration? I'm not bashing bush with this as my uncle said that is pretty normal. BTW they also said the price is going up due to increased demand.
They were referring to the exchange rate of the dollar against other currencies. That can definitely go back up, and probably will if the French people vote against the European constitution.
I finally emptied the drawer i had been putting pennies into and bought 3 books a couple weeks ago. What fun! I have cents back to 1916. We went to visit my parents last weekend and Dad brought out coins he had laying around. More fun! I saw dates in the 1800's. We took pictures and I would like to post them to find out what some of them are. Glad I found this site.
