Aside from dusting, can the crud be cleaned safely from the GOD WE area and maybe below the LIBERTY?

This was just a junk example I had lying around. It isn't that I am attached to the coin. It was an example of a dirty coin.

simple answer, cleaning a coins is just that cleaning it. when a coin is like the one pictured, isnt there usually damage beneath it? i always thought you couldnt have one without the other in a case like this, but i could be mistaken.

i would let it be, but try to stop the green from getting worse if possible.

Try a toothpick and a paper towel if you just want to get the gunk off. It might hurt the coin though. I would just leave it on the coin, its part of its story.

Nitric acid and some steel wool will get rid of that ugly blight

I think you are just seeing the shadow from the angle at which I shot the coin. But then I don't pay any attention to error coins.

Not sure of the best way to clean it , but leaving it on will only make it get worse till the whole coin is covered .

So how long does that kind of damage take? Months? Years?

Depends on the enviroment it's in , but it could at least triple in a year .
