I fear though that the space problem will result in higher costs for us purchasers. If the organizer is only able to rent half the number of tables out, that table fee would have to be increased. Economics would dictate that. And higher table fees result in higher coin costs.
By the time shows come back the space issue won't really be an issue. Convention centers are going to be one of the last things that return to normal even after things open back up, just like we may be watching a WS played at spring training and college football with no fans. It's not going to be like flipping a switch to get back to normal, things will be done in stages and anything with 100s to 1000s of people in small area fall is the first realistic time frame for social events like that. You'll probably see some spit guards hung in front of all the tables like you see at the stores now (which will likely stay most places permanently) and it'll be up to the customers to keep themselves safe Not exactly. Every dealer makes a decision whether the show is worth it, table fees get to high and they just don't go. If anything tables fees will likely have to be lowered to get dealers to start coming back to the shows
The convention center will doubtless try to incentivize the holding of the show, presumably with some sort of concession on rates.
It doesn't look like I'll make the ANA this year, even if it is going to be on. So, I may finally have the chance to go to Whitman's show.
The unions, on the other hand, will not be so charitable, so I would expect it to take much longer for convention centers that are run by unions to recover. Not an issue for FUN, but other sites aren't so lucky.
Facemasks and coin shows likely don't go together. We might be required to wear them in public for the foreseeable future until an effective vaccine is in place.
Just wanted to make sure I am in the know....the 4 (?) major shows are FUN, Long Beach, ANA, and Whitman. Or is it Central States over Whitman ?
