According to USPS this should arrive today. A long-awaited upgrade to my SLH collection. Seller images.
Picked up this recently. My biggest problem with this series is so many examples have horrific toning, some awful spots, and some pretty weak strikes. I quite liked this example. Those scratches on the slab look like they're here to stay, couldn't get them out with the scratch remover for slabs.
Every time I see a 59, I remember someone who found A very high grade Unc or maybe even a Proof and was dissappointed when finding out it was actually a pattern piece with the shield used on the Type 2. It was actually worth less than the production piece in the same grade.
I can imagine. I need a nice 59 myself I had a cleaned xf that I’d bought 30 years ago I may still have somewhere
This is my first of hopefully many, I find it very interesting researching all the different coins and the process of how they were minted,
I struck a deal on these. The first is a late Die State S-110 though I hope I can see enough when it arrives to determine whether it is VIII or IX. I only found 1 in the Heritage Archives Listed as IX and none in VIII. This second that I used to bundle a deal is a 1883 Hawaiian Dime. ICG definitely over graded here as it's nowhere close to XF. But I was interested in what was happening on the reverse (~4-5). Something hinki with either an oversized planchet or slightly off center or even double struck. There's no evidence of a double strike on the obverse so if it were, it would have to have had a loose collar causing only one side to double strike.
Just got this one in the mail for my mom's birth year set. I was more than happy with the price considering others that I've bid on went way over my max limit.
