What does this stamp mean? The reverse looks like an error. I Googled for information and nothing came up.
Countermark of unknown origin or someone playing with their new stamping die. Either way not an error sir.
It's a 1935 Lincoln Wheat Cent. The large deep S countetstamp is of unknown origin. The counterstamp is so large and deep it affect the reverse. Definitely not a mint error.
Hey Tony, welcome to the neighborhood. As mentioned, someone with a letter stamp struck your cent causing it to now be just a damaged cent. NAV, No Added Value. I do find it interesting that the strike pressure cause a bar, looking like it belonged there, on the reverse. Good luck in collecting and please post as good of photos with any other coins you have questions about.
Looks like they may have set it on the jaws of a vice when they struck the S. That may account for the bar. Just a wild guess.
