Once this whole COVID-19 thing is behind us, which I feel should be sometime in late May/early June, is it beyond reasoning to think that coin shows still scheduled later in the year will go on? If so, would you attend? I will be. However, for the short term, I'll still be keeping a safe distance until completely back to normal.
I doubt that many, if any, shows will run in Q3 (July-September), but am optimistic that shows from October on will still happen. If they still have the Whitman Baltimore show in November, I plan to attend.
I am on the board of the Indiana State show and we are still proceeding. Our show isn't till December so we should be good. Of course, they talk about this thing coming back in the Fall so we shall see.
Some stuff will have to start opening up in May/June no matter what. That said barring some miracle treatment (which isn't out of the question with multiple things showing a lot of promise) I wouldn't expect any coin shows this summer. They're completely non-essential and in the same type of category as going on a cruse also the general crowd is much older. FUN is the next realistic major show. Local ones it will be like September or later most likely
Our coin club had a show scheduled for May 31, but it’s not looking good as the VFW we hold it in is currently closed until at least May 1. Even if there could be a show, how many people will actually attend it
The big Biloxi coin show in Mississippi has been pushed back from May to August. I sure wouldn’t go in May. I hope August is a can-do.
No matter what, they're going to have to look into making the aisles bigger, at least at my local show! No way to have 6 feet distancing with 10 people making a beeline for the same junkbox!
The big state show in our neck of the woods is scheduled for the first weekend in June. I can't see it happening, unless they can give the two-minute test to everyone wanting to walk in the door. Too many older and unhealthier dealers and attendees. I'm even more sure the early May show will be canceled, although I don't see any official notice yet. No big loss on that one, though, it's like a 10-table show in a small, cramped room. I blow it off half the time even when there isn't a disease in the air.
I won't be going anywhere till the first of the year. This thing needs a lot of time to be put under control.
I sure hope so! Our local show is scheduled for August, and I hadn't heard anything about it being cancelled yet. Has anyone heard anything about the Summer FUN in July? I was considering attending that, but that might be in jeopardy.
Orange County, Florida is on a complete lockdown and I have heard a rumor that the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) will not be having any gatherings for the foreseeable future, whatever that means. As I write this, the parking lot of the OCCC is a drive-up Covid testing site. Summer FUN 2020 is still up on the FUN website as going on and I don't see any discussion there about cancellation. I did see this: Walt Disney World has just announced a non-paid furlough of more than 43,000 cast members for a least a month and probably longer, starting April 19th. I doubt that a money factory like WDW will open by June to any large extent, if at all. So, I doubt that FUN will be a going concern scheduled as it is for July 9th. Even if Summer FUN goes ahead, with about 400 to 500 tables, they will need to have more than one bourse room to achieve the kind of mandated separation. Or a limit on the number of people allowed on the bourse floor at one time, or both. Plus, there will need to be a combination of self-regulation and more-formal enforcement of separation particularly at dealer tables. I can see a requirement that dealers disinfect their surfaces after every customer or some such. All very onerous and difficult. Absent a vaccine or a set of viable treatments, I will probably not be attending Summer FUN. Very painful for me as I live in the area and love the show, bourse, auctions, club meetings and chatting with old and new friends. So, maybe the dealer members here might opine as to what set of requirements might be enough to dissuade them from attending?
I see that quite a few have mentioned my concern. Space. This is something that will no doubt be addressed, if and when the shows resume, while I see a reduction in dealer numbers to accomplish this as well. That said, somehow I don't see a high number of them willing to gamble on setting up until late in the year or even the next.
