Piefort 1979 One Franc: This was shot through the original mint plastic; cheaper than the 2 or 5Fr. but IMO in hand the reverse in this coin is hard to beat, and the photograph does not do it justice.
I've always figured that one day New Caledonia will be the richest people on earth since their island is virtually made out of nickel. I like their coins and Gems abound. I like the old nickel coinage. It's not especially scarce but it's attractive.
Hey, that's right, forgot to mention that it was gold and bought a few years ago for slightly BELOW bullion. Simple design but very effective!
