This photo shop thing is giving me :headbang:. Ok lets put it this way I have a coin picture on desk top, how do I bring to photo shop for cropping and editing. Any homework, help will be appreciated. Koresh.
I think it's in the file menu. Import pics/open pic file or something, I have not worked with PS for a long time though.
If your not patient with computer programs as I am you should really look into the numerous, much simpler photo programs out there. Some are even free on the internet. Example is Microsoft Picture it, Digital Image Pro. Or MGI PhotoSuite SE. Or Coral Photo Albums. Or PhotoWorks. These are the ones on my computer so far. I've got Photoshop also but only opened it once and gave up.
Start up PhotoShop and then minimize it to the meun bar....go to your desktop and find the file. Click and hold on that file and then drag that file down to the meun bar over top of the item that is your minimized photoshop. Your Photoshop will maximize and then drop your file in the blank open area. This should do what your wanting... Speedy
Open photoshop, but don't maximize it. Drag picture that you want it to be edited into the workspace. Should work. Otherwise use file > open and search for the file that you are looking for. If you are looking to crop a circular shape from the coin, do the following: Select the circle / elliptical shape from the toolbar. Hold the SHIFT button to ensure that you are making a PERFECT circle and at the same time, click from the top left to the bottom right corner. You can always adjust the circle later if it isn't perfectly in the center. Hit "layer > background from layer" and this will create a new transparent background Hit "Select > inverse" and this will select everything else that isn't in the circle. Hit the delete button You should have a perfectly cropped coin. I'm using photoshop CS2 although I heard the functions are slightly different from the older versions from 8.0 downwards. Note this will take a fair bit of time and practice so don't give up too early. It took me almost a week before I got the hang of it in my head.
You have opened yourself to a LOT of frustration. The simpler operations you'll pick up quickly. But wait until you get to color, brightness and contrast. Take it little bits at a time or it will overwhelm you. And a third-party help guide wouldn't hurt either.
I'm using XP. I can right click on any image or file and click Open With. Select the program and I'm there.
Reading the replys makes me glad I don't try that thing. So many of the cheaper, easier ones do what ever I need. Coral comes with a lot of Compact Flash cards free. Others can be downloaded from the internet. If you don't have lots of time to attempt to learn a photo program, photoshop is just to nerve racking for me.
My wife has Corel and Photoshop. I've got Paint Shop Pro and MS Photo Editor. For simple things like resizing and cropping (including circular cropping), MS Photo Editor is great. Problem is, MS did away with it when they brought out Office XP. To get it now, you have to have the installation disks for Office 97 and then surf up the installation instructions on their site to install it on a system with Office XP. I liked MS Photo Editor so much that I bought Office 97 just to get it. Expensive way to go, but then I'm a bit weird.
Simply right click the image you want to open and select "Open with Photoshop"...just that simple!! RickieB
I almost threw out a lot of programs from windows 98 when I installed XP. The some guy showed me how to make all old programs work with XP. If you check with some computer nuts they could tell you how. They made my copy of MS Photo Editor, Diogital Image Pro, Photoworks and a few otherw still work. Had a scanner that was for Windows 98 and they made that work with XP also. I'm not a computer person at all so they either did it for me or wrote it all down. I tried what they wrote but got confused so had a so called computer nut fix it all.
Here are a few links of stuff I put on another forum that might help: http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1516&highlight=photoshop http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1515&highlight=photoshop http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1273&highlight=photoshop http://www.coppercoins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2263&highlight=photoshop You may want to print out on a word page. The images will also transfer if you high light parts at a time with the images and paste to your word page. I've spent many hours on this program and taken/edited probably over 15,000 images. See if this helps and ask questions when you have problems.
I've been using photoshop since the first version that was released on windows and can teach you some quick short cuts. Read Coop's links also. There are different techniques for each image so experience is the best bet.
FYI.... a lot of the desired alterations can be done through Photobucket.com. They used to be only storage, but they added a editing feature.
