I saw this Roosevelt dime on Ebay recently, and I had a whole bunch of Ebay Bucks, so I cashed them in. The original asking price of $250 was a little bit strong, but I liked the FT.

So, it arrived and I started looking at it closely. I noticed something peculiar on the reverse..... A boldly repunched mintmark! Did a little research, and realized that this is the RPM-004, FS-504: http://varietyvista.com/07 Roosevelt Dimes/RPM Detail Files/1947SRPM004.htm

After doing a bit more research, the only sale I could find in a similar grade is a PCGS MS-66 FB which sold on Great Collections for $512. Mine is PL.... which makes it even more valuable! Cherrypick for the win!

    Nice find.

Nitpick in good humor, but isn't it a cherrypick only if you know about it before you buy it? Otherwise it's just lucky? :p

I suppose you are technically correct. I've always used the term both ways. Either way, I win on this one!

I like this coin, but I don't quite get how the RPM is so valuable in this case. There are so many RPMs, many of which are as bold as this, and I don't notice a lot of them going for huge premiums. The PL, OTOH, I can definitely see garnering a nice premium.

I have no idea why, but I do know that auction history indicates this variety sells for a significant premium. Here are two sales I found:

Fivas and Stanton give this variety a URS-8 Saying that there are around 65 to 125.
Yet every resource I have says that there are only 4 known. Wexler doesn't even provide photos of this variety.

Nice find! add in the Pl and that is for sure a winner!

I think there are a few of these out there undesignated. In researching PL examples of the date for price comparison, at least one or two mentioned there was a "clearly repunched mintmark," but didn't designate which one: https://coins.ha.com/itm/roosevelt-...37-400.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

I suspect that some of the other PL's of the date are probably also RPM-004, but the pictures aren't clear enough for me to tell in the Heritage archives.

I found two others in PL I believe. a 501 and a 503. There are 6 RPM's for the year and an OMM S over D.
