Any setting recommendations? Charging the batteries now - can't wait to see what kind of pictures it will get. Will have to try a few tests tomorrow. What is funny is it defaulted to 9 meg pictures - for a total of 4 pictures.
I will learn along with you Mark. My new camera is a DSC-H something. I am having a hell of a time getting good pics. So far at least.
I don't have that camera, but find how to set MACRO function and read the manual how the zoom interacts with the Macro function. Usually if there is a focus "ok" indicator, you can probably skip reading it until later. COLOR balance is also important, or you might spend a lot of time correcting in Photoshop like program. Most have a manual way of getting the color balance of a white sheet of paper under your lighting and holding it until the batteries run out. With the LCD screen , it is usually best to use the FOCUS OK indicator if you have one. Mine puts a little box around the area focused and a tiny light blinks green. Keep the IMAGE Stabilization on if you don't use a tripod, it makes a big difference. If weird color occurs on the coin, turn off FACE and SMILE Recognition if you have it. If the camera thinks Ms. Liberty is a real face ( mine does) it can alter the color balance to try and give it a facial tone, and Ms. Liberty doesn't smile and this can confuse some settings. Use the High Resolution for small coins as you can crop down. have fun! my efforts have improved since I read the manual Jim
I have a DSC-H7 so if yours is anything like mine, here are my settings: Macro Enabled Image Size - 8M (11x17 prints) Other than that, I leave it on the "P" setting (Program Automatic) and let the camera do the rest. Ribbit
I turn my flash off and take pics outside in the shade, with the sun out. I get decent diffused light coming in the sides and I can get within an inch of the coin without having a shadow. Ribbit
See test forum pictures. Let me know what you think. Well on the H50 there are a bunch of settings that I will have to read on. What I do not want to do is - change shutter speeds and etc. Nothing complicated. I think I will have to play with the picture size. I see a P setting, but left it on the default green camera setting. Maybe I will try the P setting tomorrow. Who reads manuals!!!! Okay - I did to put the batteries in. The macro setting is a simple button on the camera and so is the flash. Just like old camera I turned the macro on and flash off. The old camera I always went to max zoom and this camera the size of the coin required I play with zoom.
LOL - I think my picture size goes - 9m, 5m and 3m - then a buch of goofy settings like 3:2 etc. The ones in the test forum came from the 3 meg setting.
On mine, the picture setting is accessed via the Menu button. I just scrolled to the left till it stopped on the largest possible and left it there. It makes my pics even bigger so my coins come out even bigger. If I post the pics of my coins in their actual size, peeps yell at me for having problems reading the thread so now I upload them to ImageShack and resize them so they aren't too big but the quality is excellent. Ribbit
Yeah - mine is 9m and only allows me to take 4 pictures. The memory card is only 40m. Check the 1946 nickel out in test forum- that was a 9m picture that after I cropped it turned into .5m or so. The others were 3m cropped into a couple hundred K or less.
I got one of the high speed 2G cards. It takes pics really fast and I can store a ton of pics on it. Ribbit
Well I can see I am going to have to get the 2G or 8G cards. Then depending on the coin which size picture I can use. I think each coin will be more challenging with this camera versus the old. Well - at least it was a free camera.
