.........what about minting the half dime in its place? i was reading an article in the newest coinworld that says legislation is being proposed to mint the half dime because it would cost taxpayers less money to make than the five cent coin. hmmmmmmm, what do you guys think?
instead........................... ..........oops!! i zigged instead of zagged! didn't realize this was posted before my post. once again, oops.
You know I suspect that a half dime is real similar to a Nickel. Sort of like saying lets make a 25 cent coin instead of quarter dollar dollar coin. I think we should also consider making a 50 cent coin similar to the old fashioned half dollar. :smile
instead...................................... ...keep your eyes peeled for a twenty cent piece again........WHO KNOWS?
Isn't that just like the government.....remane the same denomination and maybe it'll save money in some magical way. If they want to do that, why not just make the nickel half the current size and call it done? Guy~
no. that's not it at all. the proposal is to mint a coin the size of the SILVER half dime from over a century and a half ago, except that it be make in Copper-nickel, half the size of a dime. Sort of like making a new large cent, except making it out of aluminum.
drastically changing the size of the five cent coin might be a good idea. Should we change the size of the half dollar to about half the size of a Sac and make it out of the same material?
If they reduce it to half the size of a dime, they might as well save the time and effort and end the denomination, because it will be a tragic failure. Who wants a coin the size of a tic-tac floating around in their pockets? Guy~
Maybe it is time to change our monitary system. We could now have the half cent, the half nickel, the half dime, the half quarter, the half dollar (OOOPPS, already tried). Same with currency. The half $2 bill, The half $5 bill, The Half $10 bill, etc.
it's due to the fact that the coin will be much smaller than the current 5-cent piece, and therefore will cost less than 5¢ to manufacture, unlike our current coin. and yes, grizz... I did the same thing... this is the 3rd thread in less than a week on it... unfortunately, there's not a lot of commentary beyond the initial postings, and so they disappear fast.
