    Got This One from Heritage.
    Capped Bust/Variety 2, Modified Design (1826-1837)
    Another issue I'm starting up.
    I haven't ID'ed the die variety/marriage yet.

I think I've got it but I won't ruin your fun. Nice coin.

I still haven't ID'ed the Draped Bust half cent that I got last week.
Someone did it for me and I want to see if I come up with the same variety.

I've found that if I apply myself I can get it right.
    EXCEPT
The PUP's for Braided Hair half cents often are very small or have disappeared even at the XF level.

Which isn't too much of a problem unless you are collecting proofs. There are only 9 varieties in the whole series and only two years have more than one variety in business strikes.

    Oops, my error.
    I meant Braided Hair Cents.
    I use Grellman's book.

Yeah BIG difference there. And yes are right, a lot of them can't be attributed if less than XF, and even the higher grade pieces can be difficult.

The die marriage is JR-6, R2. 1834 is an interesting date, since the cross bar on the 4 becomes increasingly less present as successive obverse dies were prepared. Obverse 1 (used to strike JR-1, -2, and -3) has a perfect 4, Obverse 2 (used to strike JR-4 and -5) has a 4 with a partially broken off cross bar, and Obverse 3 (used to strike JR-6) has the cross bar completely gone. By the time Obverse 4 was made (used to strike JR-7), the engraver has to use the small 4 punch used on $2.50 gold pieces.
