They're pushing the market, because that's what they do. The only guy who's likely to complain is the buyer. But that coin ain't no XF. And if it's a good VF, Catbert's is a much gooder one (IMO).
wayyyyy over graded. Here is a F15 that when I first posted it everyone said VG. Sent it to the OLD, OLD ANACS and it came back F15. This is what I would call a solid VG. There is much more ware, and alot more of the detail is missing. That is why I marked Cat's coin down as F. It is a nice fine, but I can't go VF. Here is what turns me off about the Catbert's coin.... The leg is nicked up pertty good. The hand, breast, and arm show a good bit of wear. The Eagle also shows quite the wear. Don't get me wrong---it's a nice coin, and a key date! Speedy
Really nice coin and I think I would call it VF. Don't know enough about them, but I like the look of that coin. Beats the heck out of those blast white coins - my opinion only.
I agree. And by the way Catbert, if you want some nice UNC Walkers like the ones I showed you, just show a little restraint and save you money for a common date Seriously though, for $115 you definitely did not get ripped off, IMO. I like that coin. I think I'll post my 38-D in another thread.
The coin is definitely a VF. I think it is probably a retoned old cleaning. So price wise, according to CDN's "current market value," I'd say you did pretty well. The important thing is you like it, and ultimately that is what really matters.
Your Coin is a solid VF and for $115 you did great. I've seen specimens like that go for $50 to $60 more. With the keys in just about any series you can throw out the grey sheet.
I'd easily call that a strong VF - almost pushing XF in my opinion. I guess I'd probabaly go VF30-35 if you twisted my arm. Very nice coin! I think you got a good deal.
I would call that a solid vf-35. Natural toning. I see that I'm not the only one that has coins call out to them lol!
JJ teaparty usually has a nice selection of walkers for sale, and they seem to pick ones that are nice for the grade. Anyway, here is one graded xf-40 by pcgs, and I don't see much difference in terms of wear with catbert's: http://www.jjteaparty.com/APIC/80375.jpg
There's a bit more to it than that. The '21-S (coin in your link) is known to be weakly struck. The '38-D is not. There's a whole list of these coins that are known to be weakly struck and allowances are made for that when grading them. That said, there is also a great difference in the standards used by PCGS and those used by the ANA for grading these coins. The standards used by PCGS are much more lenient. ANA XF40 obv- Wear shows on head, breast, arms, and legs. Nearly all gown lines are visible. Sandal details are complete. Breast and knee are nearly flat. Surface: Traces of mint luster may still show. rev - High points of eagle are lightly worn. Half the breast and leg feathers are visible. Central parts of feathers below neck are well worn. Surface: Traces of mint luster may still show. PCGS - XF40/45 coins have flatness in the head, breast, left hand, and skirt lines of the left leg, with blending of the breast, hand and skirt lines. The breast, upper wing, and leg feathers will be worn mostly flat, and some wear is evident on the central wing feathers. But even judging by the PCGS standards, the coin you have pictured here is over-graded. I would say that they have bumped the grade because of the value aspect.
OK, GD, very good. Now take a position for a grade estimation for my coin, will you? (with the usual caveats that grading by pictures is difficult). :eating: Thank you in advance!
